Our Remodeling Project

Its time to demolish our old bathroom and go for a new one! Home projects are always a lot of work and exciting at the same time! We have some great help from a company up in Ohio!

We made a bunch of trips to Duncan Box on 14th Street West in Huntington and General Building Supply on 7th Ave in Huntington as much as possible. There were a few items that we needed from our neighborhood Lowe’s store as well!

The project began with demolition of the old room down to the studs! The walls were the old lathing strips with a thick layer of plaster on both sides! We had a time tearing it out and packing it down the stairs in to the trash!

Next came the plumbing, electrical work, and finally the drywall went on! After that the new tub and shower was installed and it started looking like a room again!

Its now day 12 and the trim goes up and the cabinets go in! Everything was great and we are enjoying our new bathroom! From the drawing to the finished product this design was a ton of work but a ton of fun too!

When you have a cool spot to work you are usually more creative and less stressed! You should always feel good about the space that you work in and find a way to be somewhat organized!

 

In my office I have shelves for my books, bills, discs, order books, project lists, & even a spot for recycled paper! Speaking of recycling I even take anything that has a blank spot and cut it up and put it in my note bag (you can see it right above my mouse)!

Try to find some cool accent lighting and some neat artwork! Most of my art is Linda McCartney photos as well as family and friend pictures!

Any way you choose to be organized is good! It will help you be more productive and adding some cool lighting, art/pictures, and re-usable materials will help keep you thinking of new ideas!

The Wedding

Our wedding took place at the Keith Albee Theater in Huntington WV on January 23rd 2010.

We were married on the stage and decorated it with a colonnade, white muslin swag lit with brown accent lighting, and fresh floral, & a star backdrop.

It was a great time and it went by very fast!

We also designed our own invitations that resembled an old movie ticket! The tear off stub was the reply postcard where guests could write their information and just drop it in the mail!

We designed it to fit in a standard #10 envelope. Our wedding program was also the same size and matched the invitation.

It was a fun fun day and took a ton of planning and we had a tremendous amount of help! We thank everyone that was a part of our day!

Beverages - Hops, Stouts, Ales, & Good!

Ahhh....The sweet nectar of life! If you know me then you know that I really enjoy trying new beers! Lately I have visited a place in Ohio where you can make your own six packs! This is great for trying new beers. On a typical day they usually have over 60-75 different brews available! Small batch, micro-brews, and others.

On my latest trip I picked up the following:

  Rogue Ales - Santa’s Private Reserve, Great Divide - Yeti, Left Hand Brewing Company - Black Jack Porter, Sam Adams - Imperial Stout, Two Brothers - Heavy Handed IPA, & Great Lakes - Nosferatu

Last night I enjoyed the hoppy goodness of the Heavy Handed IPA. IPA’s are great and I really enjoy the bitter hoppy beers. Sierra Nevada is one of my favorites along with JW Dundee’s Pale Ale!

I also had the Rogue Ale - Santa’s Private Reserve. Very tasty beer with a hoppy finish. I have enjoyed several from Rogue and haven’t had a bad one yet!

Out of the above bunch I sampled the Nosferatu by Great Lakes over Halloween! We had to have some theme to our Halloween Party beverages! It was a tasty beer with a red amber color. It is a smooth beer and easy to drink!

Also on the list above is the Sam Adams Imperial Stout from their Imperial Series. This is Sam’s take on the Russian Imperial Stout. This is a super super dark beer with a coffee color head and a smokey chocolate taste. According the the Brewmasters Notes it is brewed with 7 varieties of malted barley and balanced by the East Kent Golding’s hops. 
  

The Jamie Oliver Finale'

Keith Albee Theater, Huntington WV

MPE assisted the Jamie Oliver production crew with the final show taping on 3rd Avenue and The Keith Albee Theater from Wednesday the 18th - 21st.   We worked with a 50 person crew to complete the project. On 3rd Avenue a food festival took place with vendors serving healthy plates. Following the festival an acoustic performance by Rascal Flatts took place to a full house of over 2000.

Our Halloween blowout!

Between our neighbors and us we have one good Halloween party every year! Usually there are many beverages, copious amounts of food, games, & everyone is in costume!

This year we all dressed up as John & Kate + 8! Simple green shirts with numbers for the boys and pink shirts with numbers for the girls! Don’t forget about John & Kate too!

WV Coal Festival 2009

MPE has produced the Coal Festival for 16 years now. It is a great event and a wonderful time. I didn’t get a chance to video all of the things to do however I will get better at this video thing!  
Other things to do there include a huge carnival, coal mine memorial, tons of food vendors, & most importantly a display of real coal mining equipment.

Make plans to come to the 18th annual WV Coal Festival in 2010!
